There was a king, and his daughter, the princess, was the most beautiful and elegant of all amongst the land. One day, the king was throwing a celebration, and there was a lowly soldier standing guard at the palace. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a slight glimpse of the lovely princess walking out to her father. It was love at first sight. Time stood still and his heart froze. He had to talk to her. He had to see her once more. Thus, after the party, he finally managed to get by the princess' side, and told her that he had totally fell in love with her. She was quite taken aback, that a low soldier would ask for her hand. Obviously, she said no and rejected quite flatly in his face. He wasn't disheartened, though. And he told her that he was willing to do anything, and he swore anything for her. He had, obviously too, fallen head over heels for her. Though her father would definitely not even think and accomodate the idea of his prestigous daughter marrying a soldier, the princess was moved by his sincerity. Thus she said to him, "If you would stand beneath my window at the castle, where I can see you, for 100 days without leaving, I will come down and accept your love." With this, the soldier left, determined to win her love. And there he stood, and slept, under all conditions. He was basking under the hot summer sun, freezing in the cold winter. Washed by the pouring rain, dying without food and water. 1 day, 2 days, 3 days... and soon it was 45, 46, and eventually, 97, 98 days. At the 99th night, he was frail like a flower, already at his very edge, he left. He left. Without saying a word, without seeing his princess once for the 99 days, without telling her he loved her. And so, he just left, like a shadow.

He left firstly, because he didn't want to get disappointed and his heart shattered if the princess was not to uphold her words. But, he left, more importantly, so that the princess will remember him forever. That the princess will remember his love for as long as she lived. He left to keep his heart intact, knowing he had prove his love.

There is a beauty in walking away..
